Shape The Future

Shape the Future of Kennedy Hall

Our most recent project to improve Cecil Sharp House focused on restoring Kennedy Hall to its former glory as a magnificent dance hall and concert venue full of character and sophistication. This followed our successful fundraising campaign in 2013 which enabled Cecil Sharp House to become fully accessible with the installation of a lift, while becoming lighter, brighter and more spacious.

Over the years Kennedy Hall has played host to some of the biggest names in folk and popular music including Martin & Eliza Carthy, Davy Graham, Shirley Collins, Maddy Prior, Martin Simpson, Seth Lakeman and Kate Rusby.  Kennedy Hall has also hosted hundreds of dances, family events, classes, courses, conferences, lectures, exhibitions and more recently weddings.

In order to keep the hall fit for purpose, and to ensure future generations could to enjoy and benefit from the space, the following work was carried out:

Mural Windows
The Ivon Hitchens mural underwent repair and conservation work The windows were improved and re-glazed A new air filtration system was installed
Curtains Wood panelling Cushions
The old, damaged curtains were replaced The wood panelling was restored The applique cushions were re-stuffed and repaired
Floor Ceiling We also refurbished the fabric wall panels and installed an infrared hearing loop.
The semi-sprung dance floor was replaced The ceiling was repainted

There is still further work to be done however. We are looking to replace our old plastic chairs with a new, more comfortable set, better suited to the concerts and events we hold here. The floors in our smaller spaces are also becoming increasingly worn, and desperately need replacing.

We would love for you to help us Shape the Future of Cecil Sharp House and support our campaign to continue improving the facilities at the venue, providing a dynamic environment for audiences, participants, artists, volunteers and staff.
