Martin Carthy & John Kirkpatrick

Thursday 16 January

These two leading interpreters of English folk traditions – folk guitarist/singer Carthy and squeezebox virtuoso/singer Kirkpatrick – are long-time collaborators in a variety of seminal musical projects: from John’s iconic 1976 Morris tunes album Plain Capers through Steeleye Span to Brass Monkey.


Alasdair Roberts og Völvur

Thursday 23 January

Singer and guitarist Alasdair Roberts is one of Scotland’s most idiosyncratic folk musicians. Now the Scotsman joins with Völvur (The Seeresses), a band of like-minded multi-instrumental spirits from Norway for a concert of his self-written material, Scots ballads, Norwegian folk songs and perhaps a cover version or two. 


Jackie Oates: Lace Tellings

Wednesday 29 January

Jackie Oates presents ‘Lace Tellings’, a play about the lace makers of Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire and Buckinghamshire.


Trad Night: Keith Kendrick and Sylvia Needham

Wednesday 5 February

English Traditional and contemporary songs, (especially maritime material) in striking (frequently acapella) harmony or accompanied on concertina (English, Anglo and Duet) and local dialect monologues and anecdotes, are what Keith and Sylvia are all about.


Catrin Finch & Cimarrón

Thursday 6 February

Back in 2007, Welsh harpist Catrin Finch met with Colombian joropo band Cimarrón and embarked on an exhilarating tour of Wales, a collaboration repeated in 2009 and 2010. Ten years later, Catrin and Cimarrón meet again to tour the UK.

Wednesday 19 February

BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award Winners Josie Duncan will be joined by guitarist Hamish MacLeod.


Knight & Spiers

Thursday 20 February

The pairing of violin and melodeon is not a new one, but in the hands of Peter Knight and John Spiers, improvisation and invention meet the listener at every turn.

Trad Night: Peta Webb & Ken Hall

Wednesday 4 March

Peta Webb formed her acclaimed individual vocal style through the influence of Irish traditional singers. Ken Hall started singing at Islington Folk Club, and later introduced Irish satirical and humorous songs.

Jon Boden

Saturday 7 March

One of the foremost names in English Folk music, best known as the lead singer of folk juggernaut Bellowhead, performs his acclaimed solo show. Self-penned songs meet material from Bellowhead, Spiers & Boden and his A Folk Song A Day project.

Alistair Anderson and Ian A Anderson in a double header where 50 years of deathfolk, blues, psych-folk, trad & world twang meets 50 years of up close and personal Northumbrian Music.

Salt House

Wednesday 18 March

Salt House is Jenny Sturgeon, Ewan MacPherson and Lauren MacColl. Their album Undersong has been praised by folk bible fRoots for bringing “startling freshness” to the British song tradition.

Belinda O'Hooley

Saturday 28 March

Belinda O’Hooley began playing the piano at the age of seven. She is an exceptionally gifted pianist, singer, songwriter and composer and has become renowned for her highly individual, emotional, yet sensitive musicality.

Trad Night: Brian Peters

Brian Peters is one of the English folk scene’s great all-rounders, a compelling singer and an outstanding multi-instrumentalist on squeezeboxes and strings.

National Youth Folk Ensemble
